When you live abroad, your local supermarket can quickly become a
daily reality check. You have to adapt. You find yourself
compromising on traditional recipes or giving up on certain meals
entirely because the ingredients on the shelves just aren't the same
as the ones back home.
"I miss the food from Italy... I could kill for a mozzarella.
Surely, food is a big absence. There are many "revisited" Italian
products here, but the processing isn't rigorous and in the end,
the result is very different."

From Veneto to Australia.
The analysis and comparison were conducted between Italy and the
five countries with the highest population of Italian expats in
2024: Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom,
France, and Switzerland.
The products included were selected based on personal taste and
preferences, as I live abroad myself and often miss Italian food.
For the price analysis, specific supermarkets were considered,
focusing on identical brands or products with
similar characteristics. In particular, the following
retailers were chosen: Esselunga for Italy, Rewe for Germany,
Mercadona for Spain, Tesco for the UK, Carrefour for France, and
Migros for Switzerland.
